Print one sheet, write 80 characters on it, photograph it, and download a real font file made from your own handwriting. Free, no signup, and your photo never leaves your computer.
One A4 page with 80 boxes: A to Z, a to z, 0 to 9 and 18 punctuation marks. The four black squares in the corners are how the page gets lined up later, so all four have to land on the paper. The bottom right one is bigger on purpose, that is how the sheet is told apart from itself upside down. On A4, print at 100% with no scaling. On US Letter, which is shorter than A4, choose "Fit to page" or "Shrink to printable area", that is fine here because the whole sheet is measured between the corner squares.
Use a dark pen. One character per box, sitting on the lower guide line, not touching the box edges. Then scan the sheet, or photograph it flat in good light using your phone's document or scan mode.
The purple boxes should sit inside your printed boxes. If they are off, drag the four round handles onto the middle of the four black corner squares.
Tap any letter to leave it out of the font. Dashed boxes were empty or unreadable on your sheet, so they are not in the font at all.
Windows: right click the downloaded file and choose Install. It then appears in Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop and everything else.
macOS: double click the file, then click Install Font.
Canva, Figma: upload the file in the app's own font or brand settings. Canva needs a paid plan for custom fonts.
A website: host the file and load it with an @font-face rule.
Google Docs and Notion do not accept custom fonts at all, so this will not show up there. That is their limit, not a limit of this tool.
What comes out of this page is an OpenType font file. You install it once and then type in your own handwriting anywhere on your computer: a birthday card in Word, a personal note inside a client proposal, a wedding invitation, a comic, subtitles for a video. It is the same kind of file a commercial type foundry sells, made from a photo of one sheet of paper.
The template sheet has four solid black squares in the corners, and the bottom right one is printed larger so the page can be told apart from itself upside down. Your photo is measured against those four points, so every box has a known position even if the sheet is rotated, off centre or filling only part of the frame. It cannot straighten out a photo taken at an angle, which is why a flat scan or your phone's document mode gives the cleanest result. Each box is then cut out on its own, separated from the paper using a local threshold that copes with uneven lighting, and the outline of your ink is traced into curves. Those curves become the glyph outlines. On a colour print, the light blue baseline drawn inside each box disappears because the sheet is read through the blue channel of your photo, where light blue is blank paper and dark ink is not. On a black and white print, nothing at all is printed inside the area that gets traced, so there is nothing to erase.
It captures one fixed shape per character. Real handwriting is different every single time you write, so the result reads as neat, consistent handwriting rather than a perfect copy of yours. It cannot join letters up either: if you write in cursive, each letter still comes out standing on its own. There is no kerning and there are no ligatures in this version, so a few pairs will sit slightly loose or slightly tight. Everything you write on the sheet is yours, and the font carries no licence restriction from us.
Three things matter more than anything else. Print in colour if you can, because the colour sheet carries a full light blue baseline inside every box, which is a big help while writing and is erased automatically when the photo is read. Use a dark pen with a medium tip, roughly 0.7mm, since a very fine pen photographs faintly and a thick marker fills in the middle of an e or an a. And photograph the sheet flat, with the light behind you, using your phone's document or scan mode so the page is already squared up. A flatbed scan at 300dpi is best of all.
Nothing of yours is uploaded. The page loads its PDF, tracing and font libraries from a public CDN, and after that the template is generated in the page, your photo is read and traced by your own browser, and the font is assembled locally. Your picture and the font are never sent anywhere. There is no account, no queue, no character limit and no watermark. If you close the tab, nothing of yours is left anywhere.
The template covers letters, numbers and punctuation only, on purpose. If you want to sign a PDF, use the free PDF signing tool instead, which places a signature on a document without turning it into something anyone can type.
